Meeting of May 20, 2009

In attendance:Tony Fisher, Gary Gayda, Fr. Dave Schorr, Angelo Spagnolo and Ria Whitehill, Special Assistant to Gary Gayda.

The meeting began at 6:30 at the rectory of Father Dave Schorr. Father Dave just finished his remodeling and showed us his new indoor pool, sauna bath and bocce courts. We were treated to a most delicious meat loaf dinner with baked potato, salad, peas and rum cake for dessert. This meal was worth every bit of the $20 per person that we paid (only kidding about him charging us, but all the other stuff is true).

Seriously, Father Dave has just completed converting what had been a convent that held thirty nuns into a rectory for himself. Amazingly, he now has a different bedroom for each day of the month so that he only has to have a housekeeper one day each month! This should save Resurrection Parish plenty over the next ten, twenty, fifty years. No wonder why he has been called a "favorite" of the Bishop! After our dinner was complete, we proceeded with our meeting.

TREASURER'S REPORT

Gary Gayda reported a balance of $20,232.98 This was exactly $500 less than last month and it raised more than a few eyebrows, especially since Gary just came back from a vacation in the Dominican Republic. But after closer inspection of his report, we found that he had paid a $500 deposit for our upcoming Cardinal Wright Awards dinner in August, so a crisis was averted.

CARDINAL WRIGHT AWARDS DINNER

The details are coming together quite nicely for the annual Cardinal Wright day and this may be the best ever. So far, these are the details: The date is August 23rd. We will have our Mass at 4:00 at St. Stanislaus Koska S.J. parish in the strip district. This historic building will provide us with a wonderful setting for our annual Mass. Cardinal DiNardo has confirmed his attendance and we are hoping to have Bishop Zubick again as well. We are also planning on flying in Father "Willie" McGrath and Father Joe Henry, so there will be no shortage of superstars on hand!

Dinner will be held, for the first time, at Mitchell's Restaurant, Bar (important) & Banquet Center at 304 Ross Street downtown. There will be hors d'oevres consisting of mushroom caps with crabmeat stuffing, bacon-wrapped scallops, provolone sticks and Italian meatballs.

There will be three main entrees, Greek stuffed chicken breast, Beef tips marsala and prime rib of beef. Side dishes will include penne pasta, mashed potatoes and fresh broccoli with buttered breadcrumbs. For dessert we'll have vanilla bean ice cream with chocolate volcano sauce.

The cost will once again be $60. The advantage for us is that this room will be able to accomodate more than twice the number we had last year. So we are really looking for this to be one of the biggest gatherings we've ever had. We will be doing a card mailing soon to assist those who do not use email. In addition, you'll be able to go to our alumni site and register there as well.

We have just about finalized the names of this year's honorees and will be releasing the bios soon (we have one last person still to contact). In addition, we are proud to announce a new wrinkle to our festivities. This year, we will kick off a new award for mothers (in this case, the mothers of the class of '65 living or deceased) and each year through to our last graduating class we will honor the mothers of a different class at each awards night. Each mother will receive a commemorative gift and in addition, there will be one special recipient of an award that is currently in the process of being named.

IF YOU ARE A MEMBER OF THE CLASS OF '65, please reply to this email with the following information: Your name, your mother's name and if she'll able to attend. Also, please let me know if your mother is now deceased. If you are in contact with any of your class members, please let them know about this special day where they can honor their mother.

My email address is: angelospagnolo66@hotmail.com

Also planned are a 50/50 raffle, pictures with the Cardinal, Bishop and Fathers McGrath and Henry, and a large silent auction of sports and entertainment memorabilia.

PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDAR AND PLAN ON JOINING YOUR FELLOW ALUMNI ON THIS SPECIAL DAY!

Also, we would like to encourage those who may find that they have become nominees to register your friends and family members to share in your special day.

We'll be having the release of this year's nominess within the next two weeks.
